The official launch of the special program of Medical Laboratory Accreditation at Shanghai EXPO

To further improve quality, capability and safety level of laboratories, to successfully fulfill the medical insurance task at 2010 Shanghai EXPO, and to gradually realize inter-accreditation of medical laboratory results, Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau and China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) recently start to cooperate in organizing the Laboratory Accreditation among Shanghai health institutes, marking the official launch of the special program of Medical Laboratory Accreditation at Shanghai EXPO.
The special program of Medical Laboratory Accreditation at Shanghai EXPO shall pursue the principle of “carrying out in steps and advancing on the whole while setting priorities”. By developing the well organized and planned training, declaration and review of laboratory accreditation, a high quality and high level team comprising of municipal level laboratory management personnel and national level reviewers shall be built, and technological capability and management level of Shanghai biomedical laboratories shall be comprehensively improved.
The laboratory accreditation among health institutes shall be carried out stage by stage. Before November 1st, 2009, a quality management system shall be established and completed according to CNAS accreditation requirements among those health institutes which planned to become designated hospitals and CDCs of Shanghai EXPO, and accreditation applications shall be submitted. Field review shall be carried out before January 1st, 2010 and accreditation approval shall be completed before April 30th, 2010. CNAS Laboratory Accreditation for other health institutes shall be carried out step by step according to the actual situation. The procedures for laboratory accreditation among health institutes shall include the following aspects: training, institute preparation, application and review, assessment and approval.
