Supervision, Standardization, Testing and Accreditation of Agricultural Products to be Enhanced Comprehensively

As noted by Ma Aiguo, chief of Quality & Safety Regulatory Authority of Agricultural Products of the Ministry of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China in Beijing on March 2, agricultural authorities will, in the near future, enhance supervision, standardization, testing and accreditation system construction of agricultural products in an all-around way, realize cohesion between Food Safety Law and Quality & Safety Law of Agricultural Products, and take measures such as those for accelerated improvement of supporting rules and regulations. Meanwhile, he commented that in general, China’s agricultural products are guaranteed in quality and also safe and reassuring.
At an interview with reporter from Wen Wei Po on that day, Ma Aiguo noted that according to results of routine monitoring conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2008, the qualification rates through testing exceed 90% in terms of vegetables, livestock products and aquatic products, arguably maintaining a rather high level. However, as the efforts for quality and safety of agricultural products start late with little groundwork, it will be a long-term and arduous task to well implement the supervision on quality and safety of agriculture products.
