State Council Urges Local Authorities to Promptly Revise Food Safety Standards 　　2009-03-19        Report from http://www.chinanews.com.cn, March 7 — According to information released by http://www.gov.cn, the General Office of the State Council recently issued the Circular of the State Council on Conscientious Implementation of Food Safety Law, whereby people’s of governments of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government as well as ministries and departments of the State Council and institutions directly affiliated thereto are required to fully recognize the significance of Food Safety Law, conscientiously carry out learning, publicity and training tasks, perform their duties concerning food safety monitoring according to laws and strictly implement the responsibility system. Efforts should be made to formulate and revise food safety standards as soon as possible so as to provide uniform and scientific grounds for food safety supervision. The relevant administrative regulations and rules should be promptly formulated and improved in order to ensure the consistency in the system of food safety law. The food safety regulatory capability should be enhanced in a way to strengthen the validity and public confidence of the supervision.        The circular also stipulates that local authorities shall, on this occasion of implementation of Food Safety Law, solidly carry out rectification concerning food safety.        The circular states that food safety directly relates to physical health and safety of common people as well as concerns healthy economic development of the nation and social harmony & stability.
