| 2009-12-18 |
The State Food and Drug Administration held a regular monthly press conference on September 8. It is learned from the conference that pharmaceutical sector is accelerating the implementation in standards of the National Drug Plan of Action.
CPC Central Committee and State Council have attached great importance to pharmaceutical standards work and treat it as one of the most important livelihood projects. The central financial government invested RMB 100 million in 2008 to enhance the standards of 1000 drugs and plans to invest nearly RMB 200 million in 2009 to support higher standards work, which is unprecedented.
State Food and Drug Administration is accelerating the implementation of perfecting national drug standards action plan in 2009, and has developed detailed plans and arrangements. This standards improvement will focus on the high-risk drugs including injections, national drugs and drugs included in the state's essential drugs list. As for the drugs included in the essential drug list, higher standards will be applied to one by one to ensure the quality of essential drugs and public drug safety; as for national drugs and high-risk injections, in particular, the higher standards of TCM injections, human and capital investment will be increased. It is planned to invest 24.5 million yuan for the upgrade of the standards of national drugs, and 21 million yuan for the upgrade of the standards of traditional Chinese medicine injections. In addition to the strengthening in capital investment, the government guides and encourages enterprises to actively participate in standard upgrade work through various policy measures. As for the drugs that are applied to higher standards on the initiative, the priority will be given to be included in the national pharmacopoeia; as for the drugs whose standards fail to guarantee the quality upon evaluation, they will be excluded step by step using the standard selection mechanism. It is our goal that through a few years of hard work biological products standards will be brought into line with the standards of developed countries, chemicals standards will reach the international standards level, and Chinese medicine quality will be more secure and under control.
