Monitoring Instruments to become one of the Key Development Fields for Environmental Protection Industry

China Environmental Protection Industry is being developed at the rate of 12% to 15% per year and is expected to realize annual output value of more than RMB 1 trillion yuan by the end of “the eleventh five-year plan”. This is what our correspondent has learnt from the Fourth Eco-Fortune (China) Forum closed in Beijing Today (Aug. 31). By the end of 2008, the Environmental Protection Industry in China has encompassed various areas, such as contamination control, eco-environmental protection, etc., with more than 3,000 product categories, RMB 790 billion annual output value, over 35 thousand environmental protection enterprises in total and more than 3 million qualified personnel.
It is introduced by Liu Zhiquan, Deputy Director General of Department of Technology Standards, Ministry of Environmental Protection that China has dramatically increased its investment in construction of environmental protection infrastructure for urban wastewater treatment and refuse disposal, etc. since “the eleventh five-year plan”, with the transformation of environmental protection industrial market from potential market to real market being driven by a lot of factors from policies to investment. An investment of RMB 100 billion yuan has been made and 0.363 billion KW desulfurization unit constructed for coal-fired power plants in China by the end of 2008, and over 1,500 wastewater treatment plants have been set up so far, which all have effectively promoted the development of the Environmental Protection Industry.
Liu Zhiquan has indicated that the Environmental Protection Industry has huge potential for development with some existing problems, such as exclusive investment and financing channel, irrational investment structure, low industry concentration, imperfect charging system for wastewater treatment and refuse disposal, etc., for which further guidance and solutions are needed. For China Environmental Protection Industry, there are four key development fields in the future, including: relevant recycled utilization driven by Circulation Economy, pollution prevention & control and eco-environmental protection, environmental monitoring instruments and technology, and environmental service industry.
