China’s Ministry of Health (MOH) is Urgently Developing an Instant Diagnostic Reagent for Swine Flu

Source: Xinhua Yesterday - MOH spokesman Mao Qun'an said in an exclusive interview that the MOH had made deployments on prevention and control of human infection with swine flu, and had ordered medical institutions at all levels to strengthen monitoring of suspected cases, and to report them to the ministry promptly.
MOH had also required local authorities to immediately organize experts to provide medical consultations and treatment at designated medical institutions if people were suspected to have contracted the virus.
At the same time, MOH had urgently organized relevant scientific research institutions to develop instant diagnostic reagents, diagnostic standard as well as vaccines and drugs, to provide technical storage for the possible pandemic.
Mao Qun’an told the reporter that the Chinese government had attached great importance to the epidemic situation of human infection with swine flu since its outbreak in countries such as USA and Mexico, and Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice Premier Li Keqiang had made important remarks. Vice Premier Li Keqiang had called a special meeting with leaders of relevant departments to study countermeasures and plans of prevention and control.
Mao Qun’an introduced that the MOH had been paying great attention to the epidemic situation, and had taken corresponding measures and made full preparedness. The MOH had organized experts to analyze the viral sequence and investigate and judge the epidemic situation so as to initiate corresponding measures.
Upon receiving messages of the epidemic situation from WHO, Chen Zhu, Ministry of MOH, deployed relevant prevention and control work and initiated the working mechanism of MOH prevention and control leading group and expert panel. At the same time, while promptly notifying the epidemic situation to relevant departments such as Agriculture and Quality Inspection, MOH also learned more about the epidemic situation as well as prevention and control work from WHO, USA and Mexico.
Mao Qun’an said that MOH shall report relevant epidemic situation and prevention and control knowledge to the public promptly. He also said that “China is willing to provide experts and technical support for countries plagued by swine flu”.
